Pinellas County Utilities buys its water from Tampa Bay Water, a mix of groundwater, river and reservoir water and desalinated seawater. It treats the water with chloramine and adds a polyphosphate to limit pipe corrosion. Its 2025 report suggests a softener setting of about 11.1 to 14.3 grains per gallon. That's hard enough that a tank in a 1970s Bardmoor garage builds up sediment fast unless you flush it every year.
