What the reviews say

Water heater replacement & service

Water heater feedback

BBB reviewers praised a same-weekend emergency replacement in which the technician drained the old tank to limit flooding, and a replacement in which the technician called a restoration company.

Worth knowing about their water heater work

One service-plan member said a $600 (after discount) quote for water heater elements was excessive and that the technician shorted the unit. Penguin said it had recommended replacing the heater because of repeated issues and offered a second-opinion visit.

Selected reviews · Checked September 29, 2026. Three BBB customer reviews selected from 60 reviews and 16 complaints on the Phoenix profile. Other entries mentioning water heater flushes or membership disputes were excluded. In the concern, the reviewer describes an electric tank but the company's reply refers to a tankless unit; this mismatch is unresolved.

The reviewer said a leaking water heater had caused water damage from the laundry room to the garage. The technician replaced and properly installed the heater, called a restoration company, and did not push unneeded repairs.

BBB customer review

Jennifer H · September 18, 2024

A service-plan member said they were quoted $800, less a $200 plan discount, to replace heating elements on an electric water heater. The reviewer said the technician then shorted the unit by pinching a wire, leaving no hot water, and that they could not cancel the plan without a charge.

Company reply and outcome: Penguin said it had recommended replacing the customer's water heater (which it described as tankless) because of repeated issues, and offered to send another technician for a second opinion.
