CARPENTERSVILLE AT A GLANCE
Carpentersville requires a $50 water heater permit. Email permits@cville.org; it's issued over the counter, with one final inspection. Plumbers register with the Village and submit their Illinois plumbing licenses (055 and 058); owners living in the home can use a homeowner affidavit. ComEd and Nicor Gas serve the area, and the Village softens its own well water.

HOMES IN CARPENTERSVILLE
About 54% of homes were built before 1980. Older homes often have older venting, smaller closets and shutoff valves that should be checked before install day.
88% of homes heat with utility gas, so gas water heaters with existing venting are common here.
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey ACS 2024 5-year ↗ (2020-2024). Heating fuel is what homes use to heat the house. It often, but not always, matches the water heater’s fuel.
LOCAL CONDITIONS
The Village checklist requires a full-port shutoff on the cold side, a T&P relief valve discharge that ends within 6 inches of the floor at a floor drain, three screws per flue connector seam, and a drain valve you can reach. Any saddle valve feeding a furnace humidifier must be replaced with an angle stop.
The Village softens its well water with ion exchange. Its own maintenance page says soft water makes corrosion the bigger risk. It suggests replacing the anode rod at 3–5 years if you have soft water.
