What the reviews say

Water heater replacement & service

Water heater feedback

A BBB reviewer said Bell fixed complications with a new water heater installation, apologized and discounted the fee.

Worth knowing about their water heater work

One BBB complainant said a boiler fired without water after a side-arm water heater replacement. Bell blamed a failed Navien sensor and offered a $500 goodwill labor discount; the customer accepted. A second complainant disputed a water heater Bell installed for garage radiant heat. Bell offered a $4,648 credit toward replacement equipment; the customer accepted it on BBB but chose to use another company. A 2025 reviewer called a $3,500 gas tank replacement too expensive; Bell replied that the price was up-front, covered code-related parts and the permit, and included discounts.

Selected reviews · Checked September 29, 2026. Four selected BBB accounts (two complaints, two reviews) from 2024-2025. Both complaints involve unusual setups (a boiler-connected side-arm tank and a radiant-heat application). This is not a complete history.

BBB complaint

Customer name withheld · November 26, 2025 · Resolved

The customer said that after Bell replaced a side-arm water heater connected to a Bell-installed boiler (total reported as $13,288.72), the boiler fired without water and damaged its heat exchanger. The customer disputed about $1,600 in labor for the heat-exchanger repair.

Company reply and outcome: Bell said a failed Navien low-water/pressure sensor, not technician error, caused the damage. It said Navien covered parts but not labor, and offered a $500 goodwill labor discount pending a release and payment. The customer accepted on December 4, 2025, adding that the company had been slow to make contact.

BBB complaint

Customer name withheld · March 20, 2024 · Resolved

The customer said an electric water heater Bell installed in December 2021 to heat a glycol radiant floor in a garage had failed three times. The customer said a second opinion called it the wrong application. The customer also disputed a $2,558 diagnostic quote given the stated five-year workmanship warranty.

Company reply and outcome: Bell said it pulled a permit that was never inspected and offered to waive the diagnostic and repair the system. It later offered a $4,648 credit toward a gas garage heater or mini-split installed by Bell. The customer accepted the resolution on BBB on April 22, 2024 but said they would use another company.

BBB customer review

tim s · November 19, 2025

The reviewer said a leaking water heater was replaced for $3,500, which they felt was too much, and that a competitor later suggested a repair might have been possible. They also said a military discount was not honored.

Company reply and outcome: Bell replied on November 26, 2025 that it uses up-front task-based pricing, that its plumber found the 40-gallon gas heater leaking from the jacket, and that the job included valves, thermal expansion protection, a gas shutoff, drain pan, leak alarm and permit. Bell said a 20% military discount and a $100 discount were applied, and that a heating element applies to electric, not gas, heaters.
